Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 in Fun Video Marking 10M RE4 Players

by Ellie May 05,2025

Capcom has subtly hinted at Resident Evil 9 in a recent celebratory video. In honor of reaching 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team released a short clip on social media on April 25. The video features Ada Wong engaging in a conversation with a notorious villain, followed by a scene where Leon is surrounded by infected enemies wearing party hats as they approach a church. The mood shifts with a rock song playing, showcasing Dr. Salvador playfully strumming his chainsaw as if it were a guitar, with Leon energetically fist-pumping in the foreground. Behind him, a rustic sign proudly displays "Thank you for playing."

However, a closer look at the sign reveals a clever Easter egg. When rotated, the boards on the sign form the Roman numeral "IX," which is 9. While some might dismiss this as a coincidence, the well-known horror game leaker Dusk Golem points out that the lower plank on the sign was absent in earlier parts of the video, indicating it was deliberately added. This has led to speculation among fans, with one commenter exclaiming, "I know what you did here," accompanied by a wide-eyed emoji.

Capcom has officially announced that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, presumably Resident Evil 9, will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7. Nakanishi shared his thoughts on the project, stating, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Rumors suggest, though not confirmed, that the game might be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
