Ananta Reborn: Mugen's Legacy Now Unfolds
NetEase's upcoming urban open-world RPG, originally known as Project Mugen, has been rebranded as Ananta. First unveiled at Gamescom 2023, the game has finally released a new teaser trailer, with further details promised on December 5th.
The reason for the name change remains undisclosed by the developers. However, both "Mugen" (meaning infinite in Japanese) and "Ananta" (Sanskrit for infinite) share a common theme, reinforced by the game's Chinese title. While the name change has sparked debate among gamers, the renewed activity is generally welcomed.
Comparisons are already being drawn between Ananta and Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. Ananta's trailer, while visually impressive, lacks gameplay footage, giving Neverness to Everness a potential advantage in the eyes of some players.
A surprising development is the deletion of all original Project Mugen social media accounts, including a YouTube channel with a substantial following. Only the Discord server was retained and renamed, leaving many players puzzled by this decision.
Ananta casts players as an Infinite Trigger, a paranormal investigator tackling supernatural events. Key characters include Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
