Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 7: A Million Mods and Counting!

Larian Studios' highly anticipated Patch 7 for Baldur's Gate 3 has unleashed a tidal wave of community-created mods. The response has been phenomenal.

BG3 Patch 7 Modding Success

Larian CEO Swen Vincke tweeted that over one million mods were installed within 24 hours of the patch's September 5th release. This was quickly surpassed; mod.io founder Scott Reismanis reported over 3 million installs and counting! This explosive growth is fueled by Patch 7's introduction of Larian's official Mod Manager, a built-in tool simplifying mod installation and management.

Patch 7 also includes substantial new content: evil endings, improved split-screen, and more. The modding tools, accessible via Steam, utilize Larian's Osiris scripting language, allowing for custom stories, scripts, and basic debugging, with direct publishing capabilities.

Cross-Platform Modding on the Horizon

While Larian initially limited access to its development tools, a community-created "BG3 Toolkit Unlocked" expands modding possibilities, including a level editor. Larian is actively developing cross-platform modding support, starting with PC, followed by consoles. This process requires navigating console submission procedures and addressing potential issues.

Beyond modding, Patch 7 boasts UI improvements, animations, dialogue options, bug fixes, and performance enhancements. With future updates planned, Larian's commitment to modding and player experience is clear.
