Japanese Mahjong: A Digital Adaptation

This app offers a faithful recreation of Japanese-style Mahjong. Tile selection is achieved by using an on-screen slider; tapping the slider discards a tile. The goal, as in traditional Mahjong, is to complete four melds and one pair.

Note: Certain hand combinations are invalidated by actions like Chi, Pon, and Open Kan. Pay close attention to the availability of 1 and 9 tiles when performing Chi and Pon. A winning hand requires at least one meld.

Reaching a winning hand can be facilitated by a 1,000-point Reach bet. However, Reach is unavailable after performing Chi, Pon, or Open Kan. Closed hands yield higher point values.

A crucial element is the "Lost Hand" scenario. This occurs when a player is waiting for a winning tile, but cannot win because they previously discarded that same tile. Even with a Lost Hand, a self-drawn win is still possible. The key difference is that a Lost Hand cannot be won via Ron (winning from another player's discard). A Ron win is only possible with a tile discarded by another player. Strategic reasoning is essential to anticipate and win based on opponents' discards.
