Assassin's Creed Shadows: Max Level and Rank Cap Revealed

by Max Mar 27,2025

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* stands out as one of the most expansive games in the franchise, boasting a deep progression system that matches its vast scale. Here’s a detailed look at the maximum levels in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* and how the level cap functions.

What Is the Max XP Level in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* introduces a revamped progression system. While the unlocking of skills is primarily tied to the new Knowledge Ranks (which we'll discuss later), there's also traditional XP-based progression. Gaining XP in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* allows you to access higher-tier weapons, armor, and gear, enhancing Naoe and Yasuke's base stats.

To fully explore all the Japanese provinces on the game's map, players need to reach Level 35. However, the XP grind doesn't stop there. Initially, Ubisoft indicated a Level Cap of 40, but players can actually continue grinding up to Level 60. It's also anticipated that this level cap may increase further with the upcoming *Claws of Awaji* expansion for *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* introduces the Knowledge Rank system, which is distinct from the XP leveling. Players advance through Knowledge Ranks by earning Knowledge Points through various open-world activities focused on mindfulness and training. As you progress, new skills become available for Naoe and Yasuke, though you'll need to use Mastery Points to unlock them.

To access all unlockable skills, players must reach Knowledge Rank 6. However, the progression doesn't end there. Upon reaching this rank, Naoe and Yasuke unlock a new Knowledge tree with passive skills, allowing further customization based on preferred playstyles.

Is There a Cap for Mastery in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Mastery represents the third major progression aspect in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, functioning similarly to skill points. These are used to unlock skills within the various Mastery trees, with some skills requiring more Mastery than others.

There are numerous skills to unlock, with six Mastery trees available for each protagonist. Mastery Points are earned through a wide range of activities, ensuring ample opportunities to acquire the skills you want. While there's a theoretical limit to Mastery Points, reaching it would require extensive play. The *Claws of Awaji* expansion, set to launch later in 2025, is expected to introduce new ways to earn Mastery Points.

Does Assassin’s Creed Shadows Have Level Scaling?

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, each Japanese province has an associated level. The highest initial level requirement is for Kii, which requires Level 35. As you gain XP and level up, the difficulty of these regions scales to match your level.

However, from Level 42 onwards, there's a cap on how high the levels for enemies and province difficulty can scale. From this point, the recommended level for each province remains two levels below your current XP level. This ensures a balanced challenge and maintains combat pacing in the endgame, rewarding dedicated players.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available now on PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.*
