49ers Respond to Dr Disrespect Controversy

The San Francisco 49ers have severed ties with controversial streamer Dr Disrespect following his admission of sending inappropriate messages to a minor. This is the latest in a series of sponsors abandoning the streamer after details surrounding his 2020 Twitch ban emerged.

On June 21st, former Twitch executive Cody Conners alleged Dr Disrespect, whose real name is Herschel "Guy" Beahm IV, engaged in "sexting a minor" via Twitch's private messaging system, leading to his permanent ban. While initially denying wrongdoing, Dr Disrespect subsequently admitted to exchanging inappropriate messages with a minor on June 25th.

49ers Drop Dr Disrespect Sponsorship

In response to this admission, the San Francisco 49ers, valued at an estimated $6 billion, have terminated their relationship with Dr Disrespect. A 49ers representative stated to Digiday, "We take these developments seriously and will not be working with him going forward." This makes the 49ers the largest sponsor to drop the streamer to date. The extent of their financial contribution to his income remains undisclosed, but Dr Disrespect had collaborated extensively with the team, featuring in marketing campaigns and even announcing their draft pick, Tyrion Davis-Price, in 2022.

This abrupt end to their partnership mirrors the sudden termination of Dr Disrespect's Twitch contract in 2020. The 49ers are not alone in distancing themselves from the 42-year-old content creator. Gaming accessory company Turtle Beach and game developer Midnight Society (co-founded by Dr Disrespect in 2021) have also ended their collaborations. Several past sponsors, including Mountain Dew, have indicated they have no plans to renew any partnerships.

We take these developments seriously and will not be working with \[Dr Disrespect\] going forward.
Prior to these sponsorship losses, Dr Disrespect announced a temporary break from streaming, intending to return soon, as stated in his June 25th announcement.
