Alien: Earth Debuts August 12, Unveils Cast and Hybrid Threat Storyline
Alien: Earth launches with two episodes on August 12 at 8pm ET on Hulu, and on FX and Disney+ globally at 8pm PT/ET. New episodes of the eight-episode season drop every Tuesday.
Set in 2120, shortly after Prometheus and two years before the Nostromo’s tragic fate in Alien, Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth follows the crash of the USCSS Maginot, a secretive deep-space vessel, on Earth. A young woman named Wendy (Sydney Chandler) and a group of tactical soldiers uncover a discovery that pits them against the planet’s deadliest menace.
For context, the recent interquel Alien: Romulus is set between Alien and Aliens.
In this era of the Alien timeline, Earth is ruled by five corporations: Weyland-Yutani, the franchise’s notorious antagonist, alongside Prodigy, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold. Cyborgs and synthetics live among humans, but Prodigy’s leader introduces hybrids—humanoid robots with human consciousness. Wendy, the first hybrid prototype, embodies the franchise’s ongoing quest for immortality.
A striking detail emerges: after a Weyland-Yutani spaceship crashes into Prodigy City, Wendy and other hybrids face enigmatic life forms described as “more horrifying than anything imaginable.”
This hints at creatures beyond the Xenomorph, possibly new variants, with five distinct types rumored to appear.
Here’s the official synopsis:
In 2120, five corporations—Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold—govern Earth. In this Corporate Era, cyborgs (part-human, part-machine) and synthetics (AI-driven humanoid robots) coexist with humans. The landscape shifts when Prodigy’s visionary CEO unveils hybrids: humanoid robots infused with human consciousness. The first prototype, “Wendy,” signals a breakthrough in the pursuit of immortality. When a Weyland-Yutani spaceship crashes into Prodigy City, Wendy and other hybrids confront terrifying, unknown life forms.

Last January, showrunner Noah Hawley revealed why he avoided Prometheus’ backstory for Alien: Earth, citing his preference for the “retro-futurism” of the original films. After discussions with Alien creator Ridley Scott about the series’ connections to the prequels, Hawley chose to diverge from the bioweapon narrative, favoring the classic films’ lore.
The Alien franchise is thriving, with Alien: Romulus 2 in development and a new crossover, Predator: Badlands, bringing Alien and Predator together again.
