The trailer not only introduces a new Xenomorph design but also captures the essence of Ridley Scott's 1979 horror classic, Alien. The setting inside a MU/TH/UR control room strikingly resembles the one aboard the Nostromo, evoking a sense of nostalgia and continuity with the original film. In a gripping scene, a crew member desperately seeks help while the Xenomorph wreaks havoc. Morrow, portrayed by Babou Ceesay, coldly reports the escape of the "specimens," declares the crew dead, and sets the ship's course for Earth. The trailer then shifts to six soldiers approaching what appears to be the crashed ship, hinting at imminent danger.
The trailer raises numerous intriguing questions: Will Morrow survive? What drives his actions? Are there any other survivors, and has anyone been impregnated by the Xenomorph? How will the soldiers meet their fate?
Alien: Earth sets the stage for a thrilling narrative where a mysterious spacecraft crash-lands on Earth, leading a young woman (played by Sydney Chandler) and a group of tactical soldiers to uncover a terrifying secret, confronting Earth's greatest threat.
Set in the year 2120, Alien: Earth falls within the Alien timeline, occurring after Prometheus and just before the events of the original Alien. This placement has led fans to speculate that the series might depict the Nostromo's departure from Earth or reveal how Weyland-Yutani discovered the Xenomorphs. For context, the recent Alien: Romulus is set between Alien and Aliens.
Showrunner Noah Hawley has previously discussed his approach to Alien: Earth, opting to distance the series from the backstory established in Prometheus. Hawley, who consulted with Ridley Scott, expressed a preference for the "retro-futurism" of the original films, choosing to focus on their lore rather than the bioweapon narrative.
Alien: Earth is slated to premiere on Hulu in the summer of 2025, with Alien: Romulus 2 also in development, promising more thrilling additions to the Alien franchise.
