Alienware's Area-51 Now Supports RTX 5090 GPU

by Aurora May 04,2025

Dell has recently revitalized the iconic Alienware Area-51 line of prebuilt gaming PCs. Initially, these systems were only available with a single graphics card option, the RTX 5080. However, that limitation is now a thing of the past. You can now customize your Alienware Area-51 with the powerful Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU and the highly anticipated Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU, starting at an impressive $5,499.99. The best part? You won't have to wait long; Dell anticipates shipping these systems as early as April.

Priced at $5,499.99, the "base" configuration of the Alienware Area-51 with the RTX 5090 GPU might seem steep, but it comes loaded with top-tier components. This setup boasts an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU, paired with 32GB of DDR5-6400MHz RAM and a spacious 2TB NVMe SSD. The Core Ultra 9 285K stands as Intel's latest flagship CPU, delivering exceptional performance in both gaming and workstation tasks. Although it doesn't quite match the performance leap we hoped for from the i9-14900K, it's currently the best Intel has to offer. The system is cooled efficiently with a 360mm all-in-one liquid cooler and is powered by a robust 1,500W 80Plus Platinum-rated power supply.

New for 2025: The Alienware Area-51 Chassis

At CES 2025, Dell unveiled the refreshed Alienware Area-51 gaming PC. While maintaining a similar look to the 2024 R16 model, it features significant updates in aesthetics, cooling, and components. The I/O panel is now positioned at the top rather than the front, and the tempered glass window extends across the entire side panel, eliminating the need for side panel vents. Air intakes are strategically placed at the bottom and front of the case, promoting a positive airflow design that keeps the interior cleaner. Inside, the system sports a new motherboard, faster RAM, and a more powerful power supply to support the latest generation of CPUs and GPUs.

The RTX 5090 Is the Most Powerful Graphics Card Ever

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 has set a new benchmark as the most potent consumer GPU available. Nvidia's focus on software enhancements, AI features, and DLSS 4 technology has elevated gameplay performance, yet the RTX 5090 still achieves a 25%-30% increase in hardware-based raster performance over the RTX 4090. It also comes with more (32GB vs 24GB) and faster (GDDR7 vs GDDR6) VRAM. Due to its high demand, the RTX 5090 is hard to find at retail price and often sells for $3,500-$4,000 on eBay.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 FE Review by Jackie Thomas

"The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 has officially dethroned the RTX 4090 in terms of performance, albeit with a less dramatic leap than in previous generations. In traditional non-AI gaming, the generational uplift is among the smallest we've seen recently. However, DLSS 4 delivers significant performance gains in supported games, although it relies on AI to generate 75% of the frames."
