On January 11, 2025, numerous reports surfaced across online forums like Reddit and ResetEra: Amazon was canceling Metroid Prime 4 pre-orders. Screenshots show Amazon notifying customers of cancellations due to "lack of availability," reassuring them of a full refund within one to two business days.

A Look Back at Metroid Prime 4's Development

Initially announced at E3 2017, Metroid Prime 4 initially excluded Retro Studios, the developer behind previous entries. Nintendo remained tight-lipped about the development team at that time.

Two years later, in January 2019, Nintendo revealed a significant setback: development was restarted under Retro Studios. Shinya Takahashi, senior managing executive officer, explained that the progress "had not reached the standards we seek in a sequel to the Metroid Prime series."

A full gameplay trailer finally dropped in June 2024 during a Nintendo Direct, revealing Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and its 2025 release window. The trailer showcased the antagonist, Sylux, and his Space Pirates.
