AMD Radeon RX 9070 GPUs: Official Release Window Announced, Price Still Unknown

by Nicholas Apr 25,2025

At CES 2025, AMD unveiled its next-generation graphics cards, the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT, part of the RDNA 4 lineup. Interestingly, these cards were not showcased during AMD's keynote, though they were displayed by vendors on the show floor with obscured specifications.

David McAfee, the Vice President and General Manager of Radeon Graphics and Ryzen CPUs, took to Twitter/X to announce that both the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT are slated for a March 2025 release. McAfee expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming Radeon 9000 series, stating, "Radeon 9000 series hardware and software are looking great and we are planning to have a wide assortment of cards available globally. Can’t wait for gamers to get their hands on the cards when they go on sale in March!"

Despite the confirmed launch month, AMD has yet to disclose detailed specifications or pricing for the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT. It is anticipated that these GPUs will compete directly with Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti, set to launch in February, in terms of both price and performance.

Interestingly, reports suggest that stock of the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT has already reached retailers and has been distributed to reviewers and critics. eTeknix, for instance, has confirmed receiving review samples of these new graphics cards.

This unusual pre-launch scenario has led to speculation that AMD might have delayed the official launch to strategically counter Nvidia's RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti releases. Some also speculate that pricing pressures from Nvidia could be influencing AMD's decision to postpone the RX 9070 lineup's official unveiling.

The lack of detailed information about the new AMD graphics cards has resulted in a somewhat confusing launch narrative. A report from June 2024 highlights Nvidia's dominant 88% share of the discrete GPU market, with AMD holding a mere 12%. In this landscape, where no other company significantly challenges Nvidia in the mid-range or high-end consumer graphics card segments, AMD's strategic moves with the RX 9070 lineup are crucial to making inroads into Nvidia's market dominance.
