Android users rejoice: SoMoGa relaunches 16-bit JRPG classic

SoMoGa Inc. has released an updated version of Vay for Android, iOS, and Steam. This classic 16-bit RPG gets a modern makeover with enhanced visuals, a redesigned interface, and controller support.

Originally launched in Japan in 1993 on the Sega CD (developed by Hertz and localized by Working Designs), Vay received an iOS re-release from SoMoGa in 2008. This latest version breathes new life into the game.

What's New in the Revamped Vay?

The updated Vay features over 100 enemies and a dozen challenging bosses across 90+ diverse areas. A standout feature is the adjustable difficulty settings, allowing players to tailor the experience to their preference.

Convenience features include auto-saving and Bluetooth controller support. Players can acquire new equipment and items, learn new spells as characters level up, and utilize an AI system for autonomous character combat.

The Story:

Set in a distant galaxy scarred by a millennia-long interstellar war, the game unfolds on the technologically primitive planet Vay. A colossal, malfunctioning war machine crashes into the planet, causing widespread destruction.

Players embark on a quest to rescue their kidnapped wife and potentially save the world. The story begins on their wedding day, when their bride is abducted, launching them on an epic journey to confront the destructive war machines.

Vay's narrative is immediately engaging, blending nostalgic elements with modern enhancements. It retains its JRPG roots, with experience and gold earned through random encounters. The game includes nearly ten minutes of animated cutscenes, available in both English and Japanese audio.

Vay is available now on the Google Play Store as a premium title priced at $5.99. Be sure to check out our other gaming news as well.
