Anointing Guide for Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)

by Nathan May 27,2025

In the action-packed world of *Path of Exile 2*, enhancing your character's power is key, and anointing is one of the sophisticated methods to achieve this. This feature, which becomes available later in the game, involves using Distilled Emotions to boost your amulets and Waystones. If you're familiar with the original game, you'll recognize Distilled Emotions as similar to Blight Oils. There are ten distinct types: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.

To obtain Distilled Emotions, you'll primarily dive into Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random mix of these upon completion. However, if you're looking for specific types, you can also acquire them through currency exchange or the trade market. For those who want to upgrade their Distilled Emotions, the Reforging Bench is your go-to spot. Here, you can convert three of the same type into an upgraded version, giving you more control over your collection.

For the thrill-seekers, tackling Simulacrum waves offers another chance to snag Distilled Emotions, though it's less efficient than Delirium Maps and demands a robust build due to its higher difficulty.

How To Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2

Anointing in *Path of Exile 2* currently applies to Waystones and amulets, with potential for more options as the game evolves in Early Access. To anoint an amulet, start by selecting any Distilled Emotion to access the Instilling window. Place your amulet in the central box, and then arrange three Distilled Emotions in the bottom boxes. The specific emotions needed for the desired anointing effect are detailed in the Passive Skill Tree. Simply hover over a Notable Passive Skill, press alt on a keyboard or R3 on a controller, and the requirements will be displayed.

Remember, the skills you choose to anoint will vary based on your build, and anointing isn't a permanent decision. You can re-anoint your amulet anytime by repeating the process, allowing the new skill to override the old one, tailoring it to your evolving gameplay needs.

Waystones can also be anointed, making them more challenging but potentially rewarding with better loot. However, keep in mind that neither amulets nor Waystones can be anointed if they are corrupted.

With these tips, you're now equipped to harness the power of anointing in *Path of Exile 2*, whether to refine your build with upgraded amulets or to test your skills with enhanced Waystones.

*Path of Exile 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
