Assassin's Creed Games Ranked: A Tier List

by Christian Apr 15,2025

Ubisoft's latest addition to the renowned stealth-action open-world series, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has finally arrived. Set in 16th-century Japan, players step into the roles of Naoe and Yasuke, marking the 14th entry in the core Assassin’s Creed series. Launched in 2007 with Desmond Miles and Altaïr, the franchise has now spanned 18 years and over 30 games, but we're focusing solely on the mainline titles for our ranking discussion.

I've taken the liberty to rank these mainline games based on my personal enjoyment, using an IGN Tier List. Here's a glimpse at my rankings:

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remains my top pick, cherished for its blend of island exploration, ship combat, and a vibrant cast of characters, making it the quintessential Assassin’s Creed experience for me. It shares the S-tier with Assassin’s Creed 2, the game that truly propelled the series to fame. Surprisingly, I've placed Valhalla in the A-tier, captivated by its Viking-themed combat and the engaging Orlog minigame. Unity joins Valhalla in A-tier, praised for its stunning recreation of Paris during the French Revolution.

Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you find Valhalla too expansive or consider Assassin’s Creed 2 overrated. Now’s your chance to rank all the mainline Assassin’s Creed games yourself using the tier list below. Compare your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the broader IGN community.
