Details about the first expansion for Assassin's Creed Shadows, titled "Claws of Awaji," have reportedly surfaced on Steam. This highly anticipated game, set in feudal Japan, marks the first time the long-running action-adventure series ventures into East Asia.
After years of anticipation, Assassin's Creed fans are finally getting their wish with a game set in Japan, one of the most requested settings for the franchise. Assassin's Creed Shadows introduces dual protagonists: a Samurai named Yasuke and a Shinobi known as Naoe, who navigate the challenges of 16th-century Japan. Despite the excitement surrounding its reveal, the development of Shadows has been fraught with challenges, including backlash over the new protagonists and multiple delays. Ubisoft Quebec has faced a turbulent period leading up to the game's launch.
Recently, Insider Gaming reported a leak from a now-deleted update on the game's Steam page. This leak unveiled details about the first DLC, Claws of Awaji, which has yet to be officially announced. According to the update, players will "travel to a new region" and gain access to "a new weapon type, new skills, gear, and abilities." The expansion promises to add "over 10 hours of additional content" to the game. Notably, the temporary update also mentioned that the Claws of Awaji DLC, along with a "bonus mission," would be available to those who pre-order the game.
Assassin's Creed Shadows DLC Leaks, Coincides with Latest Delay Announcement
The leak about the first expansion for Assassin's Creed Shadows emerged shortly after Ubisoft announced another delay for the game. Originally slated for release on November 15, 2024, the action RPG was first postponed to February 14, 2025, to allow developers time to "polish and refine the experience." In a recent update, Ubisoft pushed the release date back once more to March 20, 2025, much to the disappointment of eager fans.
As Ubisoft Quebec gears up for the launch of Assassin's Creed Shadows, its parent company faces an uncertain future amid rumors of a potential buyout by Tencent. This speculation comes during a challenging period for Ubisoft, with several of its major titles, including XDefiant and Star Wars Outlaws, receiving lukewarm reception and failing to meet financial expectations.
