Recent Windows 11 Update Disrupts Assassin's Creed Gameplay; Patches Released

A recent Windows 11 update (24H2) introduced compatibility issues for several Assassin's Creed titles. Fortunately, Ubisoft has addressed the problem with patches for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, restoring functionality for these games. However, some Ubisoft games, including Assassin's Creed Odyssey, may still experience difficulties.

The Windows 11 24H2 update, while boasting features like Wi-Fi 7 support and AI Copilot+ PC integration, inadvertently caused launch failures and performance problems for certain games. Ubisoft's swift response with title updates for Origins (230 MB patch) and Valhalla (500 MB patch) provides relief to affected players on Steam. These updates should resolve the issues automatically upon installation.

Ongoing Issues and Ubisoft's Response

The root cause of the incompatibility remains unclear. While the patches for Origins and Valhalla are a positive step, reports persist regarding other Ubisoft titles. Assassin's Creed Odyssey, in particular, continues to present problems for some users. While previous hotfixes addressed major issues in games like Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, minor performance glitches may still exist. Players are advised to delay upgrading to Windows 11 24H2 until a patch for Odyssey is available.

This incident highlights a concerning oversight in Microsoft's update process. Reports of game incompatibility surfaced five months prior to the official 24H2 rollout, yet the issue wasn't fully resolved before the release. This is particularly troubling given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to migrate to Windows 11. Despite this, the majority of games appear unaffected by the update.
