ASTRA: Knights of Veda Bids Farewell to English Dubbing

Following a trend among gacha games, ASTRA: Knights of Veda will be removing its English voice-overs after maintenance on January 23, 2025. This decision, announced by developer FLINT, aims to bolster game stability and enhance localization quality.

The January 23rd maintenance will also see the removal of German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian language support. However, Korean, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian will remain. Importantly, while English text support persists, in-game voice acting will default to Japanese for players outside of Korea. FLINT assures players this change won't impact in-game chat functionality in previously supported languages.

This move follows similar decisions by other gacha game developers. Square Enix's War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius removed English dubbing from future content in May 2024, prioritizing Japanese. Aether Gazer, in February 2024, completely removed English voice-overs due to resource reallocation, citing financial considerations. Snowbreak: Containment Zone also dropped English dubbing in December 2023, citing an evaluation of player preferences and optimization of the gaming experience.

The trend suggests a prioritization of either player language preference (favoring the dominant language) or resource management. Maintaining English voice-overs across years of content updates is a significant ongoing cost. By reallocating resources, developers aim to ensure the long-term health and improvement of their games.

While this change may disappoint some players, FLINT remains committed to providing a positive gaming experience.
