Devil May Cry 5 Hits 10 Million Sales After Netflix Boost

by Samuel Jan 09,2026

Devil May Cry 5 has surpassed an impressive milestone, selling over 10 million copies. Capcom attributes part of this success to the recently released Netflix anime series, which gave the final push needed to cross this threshold.

Initially released in March 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, Devil May Cry 5 was met with widespread acclaim from both players and critics. IGN’s review awarded it a 9.5, stating: "With its three distinct and outstanding combat styles, Devil May Cry 5 sets a new benchmark for the series, complemented by a mysterious and engaging storyline."

Six years later, Devil May Cry 5 stands as a massive commercial success for Capcom. The company explained, "The game has earned strong player loyalty thanks to its top-tier gameplay, driving steady catalog sales since its initial launch."

“Capcom elevated the experience with a deeper narrative, refined action mechanics, and the introduction of a new playable character. More recently, on April 3, 2025, the company launched a new Devil May Cry animated series on Netflix as part of its Single Content Multiple Usage strategy.

"The series was met with international praise, drawing over 5.3 million views and ranking fourth globally in the 'Shows | English' category during its debut week. It also maintained a top 10 position in Japan for seven consecutive days. Thanks to the game's thrilling action and efforts to expand the brand through adaptations beyond gaming, global cumulative sales have now exceeded 10 million units.”

The monumental success of Devil May Cry 5—with the overall series surpassing 33 million units sold since the original's 2001 release—raises an inevitable question: when can we expect Devil May Cry 6? Another sequel appears all but certain, especially given that DMC5 reached 10 million sales in the six years following its 2019 launch.

For now, Capcom remains tight-lipped about future projects, with a packed development schedule already underway. In addition to ongoing support for titles like Monster Hunter Wilds and Street Fighter 6, the company is working on the recently announced Resident Evil: Requiem and the revived project Pragmata.

Devil May Cry 5 is by far the best-selling entry in the series and has secured a spot among Capcom’s top 10 best-selling games of all time. A return for Dante and the crew is only a matter of time—the real question is, how long will we have to wait?
