Bravely Default HD Remaster Opens Preorders on Switch 2

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on the new console's release date, June 5. This enhanced version of the 2012 Nintendo 3DS classic modernizes the JRPG with high-definition visuals, a revamped user interface, a fast-forward feature, and other improvements. Is the price lower than expected? It's certainly more affordable than I anticipated. This favorable pricing is likely related to the physical edition not containing the game on the cartridge itself. It is a "game-key card," which we explain in more detail below.

While some Nintendo Switch 2 games are on physical cards with all game data, others function as a digital key. This release is the latter. Game-key cards resemble standard Switch 2 game cards but do not store the game data. To play, you must insert the card into your console and download the 11GB game file from the Nintendo eShop.

You retain the ability to lend or resell the physical card. However, the card must be inserted into your Switch 2 whenever you wish to play the game.

What is Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster?

Originally released on the Nintendo 3DS, Bravely Default was a nostalgic RPG featuring turn-based combat and a story centered on four heroes searching for elemental crystals. Its standout feature is the innovative combat system that allows characters to store turns for later use, enabling multiple actions in a single round. The game also boasts an extensive job system for customizing party members' abilities.

This HD remaster retains all those core elements while adding new features. Players can now fast-forward through both battles and cutscenes. The adjustable encounter rate setting returns, letting you control how often you face enemies. Additional updates include an online mode and new mini-games.
