How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To embark on a romantic journey with Caldarus in *Fields of Mistria*, you must first break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. To do this, you need to offer four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Upon completing this offering, a dramatic cutscene unfolds where the Mines Priestess warns you to leave or face being sealed alongside the scroll. As your health dwindles, Caldarus heroically intervenes, taking on his human form and gifting you the Dragon’s Breath spell before retreating to the Deep Woods. In his human guise, you can interact with him daily, just as you would with other romanceable NPCs in Mistria.

After breaking the Fire Seal, Caldarus can be found exclusively at his temple in the Deep Woods. Use the Dragon’s Breath spell to unlock this area permanently on your map.

Caldarus' Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

Upon unlocking Caldarus as a romanceable character with the March 2025 update, he starts with six hearts, which is the current heart level cap. This means there are no additional heart events for Caldarus at the moment, though future updates are expected to expand this. Currently, there are only a few cutscenes featuring the dragon. The first is a dream sequence that introduces you to Mistria's magic and game mechanics, while the second showcases Caldarus rescuing you from being sealed in the mines, revealing his human form and retreating to recover.

Following the update, you can trigger a romantic date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival

The Shooting Star Festival marks the end of summer in *Fields of Mistria* and offers a chance to take any romanceable NPC with four or more hearts on a date to the Summit to watch the stars. With Caldarus starting at six hearts, you're all set to go with him. To initiate your date, gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and meet up afterward. This will trigger a special cutscene of your romantic evening.

During your date at the Summit, Caldarus expresses gratitude for your invitation, shares insights on the stars, and delves into the ancient Mistrian tradition of Starbinding. The conversation touches on profound themes of soul connections and the necessity of villains in every story. He muses about the possibility of you having attended this festival together in a past life before a sudden bout of fatigue leads him to invite you to continue the evening at his temple, watching the stars together.
