Resident Evil 4's Stunning Sales Success: 9 Million Copies Sold!

Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake has achieved phenomenal success, surpassing 9 million copies sold since its March 2023 launch. This impressive milestone follows the recent 8 million sales mark and is likely boosted by the February 2023 release of the Gold Edition and a late 2023 iOS port.

The remake, a significant departure from the original's survival horror roots, shifted the gameplay towards action, following Leon S. Kennedy's mission to rescue the President's daughter from a sinister cult. This shift, however, hasn't deterred fans, as evidenced by the impressive sales figures.

The CapcomDev1 Twitter account celebrated the achievement with celebratory artwork showcasing beloved characters like Ada, Krauser, and Saddler enjoying a game of bingo. A recent update further enhanced the experience for PS5 Pro players.

Record-Breaking Sales Velocity

According to Alex Aniel, author of Itchy, Tasty: An Unofficial History of Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4's sales are the fastest in the franchise's history. This is particularly noteworthy when compared to Resident Evil Village, which reached only 500,000 copies sold in its eighth quarter.

Anticipation for Future Remakes

Given Resident Evil 4's triumph, fan anticipation for future Capcom releases is high. Many eagerly await a Resident Evil 5 remake, a possibility made more likely by the relatively short timeframe (just over a year) between the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. Other titles ripe for a modern update include Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, both crucial to the overarching storyline. Naturally, a Resident Evil 9 announcement would also be met with enthusiastic reception.
