Cap's New Era: Batman Scribe Pens Captain America Reboot

Marvel Comics is set to launch a revamped Captain America monthly series, featuring a fresh creative team and storyline. This new direction will explore Steve Rogers' early days post-thaw, including his very first encounter with Doctor Doom.

The ComicsPro convention unveiled the creative lineup: Chip Zdarsky (Batman, Daredevil) as writer, Valerio Schiti (G.O.D.S., The Avengers) as artist, and Frank D'Armata on colors. This team previously collaborated on Marvel's 2017 2-in-One.

The series begins shortly after Steve's rediscovery in the modern Marvel Universe. His initial mission, following his re-enlistment in the US Army, involves teaming up with the Howling Commandos to infiltrate a Latveria recently seized by a young, ambitious Doctor Doom. While the narrative will eventually transition to the present, this initial arc's events will significantly impact the ongoing story.

Zdarsky stated, "Being a lifelong Captain America fan, writing the actual Captain America title is a dream come true! We're exploring Cap's early modern era adventures with a surprising twist. Valerio and Frank's art is phenomenal!" He further explained his approach, aiming for a grounded, human portrayal of Cap in this new world, emphasizing Steve Rogers' inherent goodness.

Schiti shared his enthusiasm, highlighting the collaboration with Zdarsky and D'Armata and the story's blend of action, heart, and entertainment. He noted a surprising focus on Steve Rogers the man, rather than solely Captain America, driven by Zdarsky's compelling script. Schiti emphasized the immense pressure on Rogers, considering his experiences and relatively young age in the depicted era.
