Clash Royale Returns with Retro Royale Mode

by Jack May 20,2026
  • Clash Royale is revisiting 2017 with the all-new Retro Royale mode.
  • Available for a limited time from March 12th to 26th, this event offers exciting new rewards.
  • Climb a 30-step ladder to earn Gold and Season Tokens.

As mentioned yesterday regarding Supercell's removal of Troop Training times in Clash of Clans, a key factor in their enduring success is their commitment to keeping major titles feeling fresh. This spirit of renewal isn't limited to Clash of Clans. To celebrate Clash Royale's latest anniversary, Supercell is taking players back to 2017!

The new Retro Royale mode, announced via a trailer, aims to recreate the launch-era experience—complete with the original meta and card pool. Running from March 12th to the 26th, players will choose from a limited set of 80 cards as they ascend the Retro Ladder. Battle your way up through 30 tiers to secure exclusive rewards like Gold and Season Tokens.

The competition intensifies as you rise. Upon reaching the Competitive League, you'll be assigned a starting rank based on your Trophy Road progress. From there, your standing is determined entirely by your Retro Royale performance, so climb the leaderboard to prove your timeless skills.

ytA Royal Announcement

It's somewhat ironic that I recently discussed Supercell's efforts to keep their games feeling current, only for a retro-themed mode to launch shortly after. However, there's a clear distinction between something feeling outdated and something evoking nostalgia. With the rewards available, it's easy to see why fans will be eager to dive in and try it.

Also, note this: by participating in both the Retro Ladder and the Competitive League at least once, you'll earn a special badge for each.
