In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, the quest for The Tournament is initiated by Gyoji, a resident of Yamato. After you've taken down several members of The Shinbakufu, Gyoji will be waiting outside your hideout, eager to discuss the tournament. This clandestine fighting arena is nestled in Southeastern Yamato at Ominesanji Temple. To the west of the area, you'll find the Ominesanji Overlook viewpoint, which you should synchronize to establish a fast travel point. We highly recommend doing this to facilitate your return and character switching as needed.

Upon arriving at Ominesanji Temple, engage with Gyoji once more. He'll brief you on the task ahead: you'll need to triumph in four one-on-one duels before facing the ultimate champion. Following this cutscene, you can ring the bell to initiate your first battle.

How to Complete The Tournament in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The Tournament is a high-stakes gauntlet of intense, life-or-death battles. Fortunately, you can pause between fights for as long as you need, simply ringing the bell to commence the next duel. Use these breaks to heal with rations and upgrade your weapons and armor if necessary.

To best each opponent in The Tournament, equip Yasuke with a long katana and master the art of dodging and parrying to exploit their vulnerabilities. Additionally, utilize abilities like Power Dash and Payback when your adrenaline levels permit.

Knowing the weapons each fighter wields can give you a strategic edge. Here’s a rundown of your adversaries:

  • Lady Masago wields a Naginata.
  • Lord Suguru uses a Katana.
  • Lord Hokuto fights with a Kanabo.
  • Lady O-Sen employs two Poison Katanas and throws ranged items.
  • Lord Unkai uses a Naginata and can heal by drinking if you keep your distance for too long.

After triumphing in the first tournament, meet Gyoji atop the hill. He will express his gratitude for your efforts and promise to notify you of future tournaments. The “Test Your Might” trophy should unlock during this conversation.

Best Loadout and Skills for Tournaments in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

For The Tournament in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, the Long Katana is your weapon of choice. Equip the highest rarity Long Katana available and upgrade it to its maximum potential at your hideout’s blacksmith. Enhancing it with engravings that boost Armor Damage or Armor Piercing can significantly tip the scales in your favor. However, your armor selection is equally crucial, not only for increasing your health but also for the strategic advantages provided by engravings.

Before venturing into The Tournament, ensure you've unlocked the Samurai Daimyo Armor of Legend by defeating The Ox, a member of The Shinbakufu. Also, acquire the Protector’s Armor by completing one of the Castles. The former offers a 75% damage increase at the cost of reducing your health to 25%, while the latter enables you to parry unblockable attacks. Combining these engravings can allow you to dispatch tournament foes in under a minute, provided you master the art of parrying.

Invest your Mastery points heavily in the Long Katana and Samurai skill trees. Prioritize maxing out Combat Expert to enhance your melee weapon damage, and unlock Power Dash and Payback for a combat advantage.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S starting March 20th.
