Crash Bandicoot 5 Purportedly Axed After Studio Shift
A potential Crash Bandicoot 5 has reportedly been shelved, according to hints dropped by former Toys For Bob concept artist, Nicholas Kole. Kole's revelation follows news of another canceled project, "Project Dragon," which fueled speculation, quickly dispelled by Kole, that it was Spyro-related. Instead, it was a new IP with Phoenix Labs. Kole's comment about a "Crash 5 that never was" sparked significant fan disappointment.
The cancellation news comes after Toys For Bob's transition from Activision Blizzard to an independent studio following Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. While Toys For Bob is now collaborating with Microsoft Xbox for its upcoming independent title, details remain scarce.
The last mainline Crash Bandicoot game, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time (2020), achieved over five million sales. Subsequent releases included Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! (2021) and Crash Team Rumble (2023), the latter ending its live service in March 2024.
With Toys For Bob's newfound independence, the future of Crash Bandicoot 5 remains uncertain, leaving fans anxiously awaiting any potential revival.
