Cyberpunk 2077’s Idris Elba Hopes For Cyberpunk Live-Action With Keanu Reeves

A Night City Reunion?

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, promoting his role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (where he shares the screen with Keanu Reeves again), Idris Elba expressed his strong belief that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action adaptation would be phenomenal. He specifically highlighted the potential for a powerful on-screen dynamic between his character, Solomon Reed, and Keanu Reeves' iconic Johnny Silverhand: "Oh, man, that's a great question. I think if any film could do a live-action rendition, it could be [Cyberpunk 2077], and I think his character and my character together would be, ‘Whoa.’ So, let's speak that into existence."

Reeves portrayed the rebellious rockerboy Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, while Elba played the seasoned FIA agent Solomon Reed in the Phantom Liberty expansion.

This isn't just wishful thinking. Variety reported in October 2023 that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is underway, with CD Projekt Red collaborating with Anonymous Content. While updates have been scarce since the announcement, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the Witcher live-action series suggests a Cyberpunk 2077 adaptation is a strong possibility.

Expanding the Cyberpunk Universe

Beyond the live-action film, the Cyberpunk franchise continues to expand. The prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched its first chapter in several languages, with more to come in 2025. This manga will explore the backstory of Rebecca and Pilar, before their involvement with Maine's crew.

Furthermore, a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Blu-ray release is planned for 2025, and a new animated series is also in the works. CD Projekt Red is actively developing various Cyberpunk projects, promising exciting developments for fans in the future.
