David Fincher and Brad Pitt are reportedly set to collaborate once more, this time to bring to life a sequel to Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. According to The Playlist, the sequel, which is slated to be produced by Netflix, will feature Pitt reprising his role as the stuntman Cliff Booth. This project marks another chapter in Fincher's ongoing partnership with the streaming service.

The screenplay for this sequel originated from Tarantino's previously shelved project, The Movie Critic, which was initially considered for his final film before being abandoned. Tarantino's decision to revive the script and entrust it to Fincher showcases his commitment to seeing the story realized on screen.

The Playlist reports that Netflix acquired the screenplay for $20 million, with a planned budget of $200 million. The film is scheduled to begin shooting in California in July. While no further casting has been confirmed, it's noted that Leonardo DiCaprio will not reprise his role as Rick Dalton. Both Fincher and Pitt are prioritizing this project, setting aside other commitments to focus on it.

Deadline has also confirmed the development of the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel, noting that Pitt had Tarantino's approval to share the script with Fincher, leading to this unexpected collaboration.

The sequel, tentatively referred to as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 2, will have high expectations to meet. The original film concluded decisively, but the world it created has been further explored in other media.

In 2021, Tarantino released a novelization of the movie, which delved deeper into the 1960s California setting and provided additional context to Cliff Booth's backstory, including whether he was indeed responsible for his wife's death. This novel will likely gain added significance with the release of the sequel, though its exact impact on the film's narrative remains to be seen.
