DCs’ James Gunn plan to rule the comic movies world
The DC Universe is undergoing a significant transformation. Past financial struggles, inconsistent storytelling, and a lack of cohesive direction have led to a major leadership change. James Gunn, known for his ability to revitalize lesser-known characters, is at the helm, and his early successes, like Creature Commandos, suggest a bright future.

Superman: Legacy
Release Date: July 11, 2025
James Gunn's Superman: Legacy kicks off the new DC Universe. This film focuses on a younger Superman navigating a world already populated with superheroes. David Corenswet stars as Kal-El, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. The cast also includes Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Isabel Merced as Hawkgirl, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho—a veritable mini-Justice League. Milly Alcock is rumored to appear as Supergirl.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
Release Date: June 26, 2026
Based on Tom King's comic, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow promises a darker, more mature take on the character. Milly Alcock stars as Supergirl, a survivor who spent her formative years on a dying Kryptonian fragment. Matthias Schoenaerts plays Krem, a significant antagonist from the comics. The film is expected to explore complex themes and relationships.

Clayface
Release Date: September 11, 2026
Following the success of HBO's The Penguin, a Clayface film is in development, directed by Mike Flanagan. The character, a shapeshifting villain with a long and complex history in comics, has been portrayed in various media over the decades. This new adaptation promises a fresh take on this classic Batman foe.

The Batman Part II
Release Date: October 1, 2027
Matt Reeves' sequel to The Batman is currently in the later stages of pre-production. The release date has been pushed back to October 1, 2027, allowing for a more deliberate and refined approach to the storytelling.

The Brave and the Bold
This DCU Batman film, separate from Reeves' universe, will focus on Batman and his son, Damian Wayne (Robin). Director Andy Muschietti aims to showcase the broader Batman family, drawing inspiration from Grant Morrison's comic book run.

Swamp Thing
Directed by James Mangold, this Swamp Thing adaptation will focus on a more intimate, gothic horror story, prioritizing atmosphere and character study over large-scale franchise connections.

The Authority
While a standalone film for The Authority is still in development, audiences will get a first look at the team through the character of The Engineer in Superman: Legacy. The Authority, known for its morally gray characters and deconstruction of superhero tropes, is a significant addition to the new DCU.

Sgt. Rock
Following his appearance in Creature Commandos, Sgt. Rock is set to star in his own film, directed by Luca Guadagnino and potentially starring Daniel Craig. This adaptation promises a fresh perspective on the World War II soldier.
