Conquering Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide

The game frequently warns against engaging Lu Bu, but defeating him offers significant rewards. This guide details how to overcome this formidable foe.

Should You Fight Lu Bu?

While challenging, defeating Lu Bu provides bragging rights and, depending on your chosen path (Shu or Wei in Chapter 4, Battle of Xiapi), may be unavoidable. Victory at Hulao Gate awards the "Strongest" trophy, and post-game defeat unlocks the game's ultimate weapon – the halberd.

Phase 1: Mounted Lu Bu

Prepare for battle with a multi-hit weapon capable of staggering Lu Bu, and Battle Arts with low Bravery requirements, quick activation, and wide range (e.g., Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, Flying Dragon Slash). Essential accessories include those boosting health and defense (Divine Bird’s Wing, Divine Turtle’s Shell). A weapon with Bravery gain on Perfect Evades is crucial.

Initially, Lu Bu charges on Red Hare. His attacks, excluding Red Hare's aerial dive, have limited area of effect, making evasion relatively easy. Exploit his brief rests between charges to unleash Battle Arts. Once his health reaches 80%, he dismounts.

Phase 2: Unmounted Lu Bu

On foot, Lu Bu is relentless. His attacks are swift, and he frequently dashes across the battlefield with a red aura, rendering him immune to staggering. Evade his charges (delivered in sets of three), and be wary of his grab attack, easily avoided with evasive maneuvers.

His most dangerous move is signaled by an orange glow, culminating in three devastating ranged arrow volleys. Use a ranged Battle Art like Absconding Slash to counter; close-range arts are fatal. Maintain a charged Musou gauge for invincibility as a last resort. Aggressively attack during this phase to quickly build Battle Arts and deplete his Fortitude meter. Close-quarters combat allows for faster reaction times.

Phase 3: Musou Rage

Upon reaching a certain health threshold, Lu Bu enters Musou Rage, becoming unstaggerable and unleashing relentless attacks. The objective is to deplete his Fortitude before he unleashes his Musou attack. Utilize all remaining resources – Musou attacks, Battle Arts, and rapid, powerful strikes – to overcome this final onslaught. Failing to break his Fortitude results in an immediate Musou attack repetition.

By following these strategies, you can conquer Lu Bu and claim victory in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, available now on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
