"Dune: Awakening Delay: Three Weeks for Beta-Inspired Changes"

by Aiden Apr 26,2025

Dune: Awakening, the much-anticipated open-world survival MMO inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novels and Denis Villeneuve's films, has been pushed back to June 10, 2025. Developer Funcom announced this delay, citing the need for additional time to refine the game based on feedback from its ongoing Persistent Closed Beta. They emphasized that this extra time would allow them to "cook" the game a bit longer and implement essential changes requested during the beta phase.

For eager fans looking to dive in early, Funcom confirmed that purchasing the Deluxe Edition or Ultimate Edition of the game will grant access starting June 5, 2025. This news comes alongside the announcement of a large-scale beta weekend next month, offering even more players the chance to experience and provide feedback on the game.

While the delay might disappoint some, Funcom is set to host a combat livestream today at 12pm ET/9am PT, which promises to reveal more about the game's PvP and PvE mechanics, archetypes, and skills. This should keep the community engaged and informed as they await the game's release.

At IGN, our hands-on preview of Dune: Awakening left us impressed. We stated, "It's easy to be skeptical about an MMO survival game set in the Dune universe, but after a few bouts of dehydration and sunstroke, the day I spent in Arrakis convinced me that Dune: Awakening is one to watch."
