Earth vs. Mars Announced by Company of Heroes Developer Relic Entertainment

by Lillian Mar 01,2025

Relic Entertainment, the studio behind Company of Heroes, is branching out with a new turn-based strategy game: Earth vs. Mars. This smaller-scale title, launching this summer on PC via Steam, pits players against a Martian invasion. The unique twist? Players utilize the Splice-O-Tron to create bizarre and powerful hybrid creatures, such as Squirrel-Cows, Human-Rhinos, and Cheetah-Flies, to defend Earth. Gameplay draws inspiration from the classic Nintendo DS title, Advance Wars.

According to Relic, Martians have been secretly harvesting the atomic essence of humans and animals for decades. Now, they've launched a full-scale invasion, forcing Earth's resistance into a desperate fight for survival. Players will command Earth's military forces against advanced Martian weaponry, including saucers, grav-tanks, and elite alien soldiers.

Earth vs. Mars offers a robust single-player campaign with 30+ missions, online multiplayer allowing players to command either Earth or Martian forces, a VS Mode for AI challenges, and a map editor.

Relic CEO Justin Dowdeswell stated, "We're thrilled to put a Relic spin on the Advance Wars formula, blending our signature style with elements from past titles." He further explained Relic's new strategy: "Alongside our traditional RTS games, we'll be developing smaller, indie-style projects to explore new genres, experiment creatively, and release games more frequently."
