Elden Ring gets Nightreign Duos mod

by Lily Nov 30,2025

Never underestimate the dedication of game modders. With the launch of Elden Ring Nightreign, a prominent FromSoftware modder has already showcased a Duos mode modification within 24 hours of release.

Modder Showcases Duos Mode for Nightreign

Luke Yui, known for creating co-op modifications for Elden Ring and Armored Core VI, shared a brief demonstration video on their YouTube channel. The footage reveals a two-player mod for Nightreign, offering an alternative to the game's forced choice between solo play or three-player squads.

Important note: This mod currently isn't publicly available or fully functional - Yui's video serves as a proof of concept. The developer mentioned the modification bypasses standard matchmaking servers, meaning while additional mods could theoretically work during gameplay, players wouldn't be using official systems. Whether this becomes a practical solution remains to be seen.

Player Demand for Official Duos Option

While Nightreign supports solo or three-player co-op, the absence of a two-player option has become a notable pain point. Players must choose between abandoning a friend to go solo or searching for a third teammate - a design choice that's already generating frustration in the community.

This limitation features prominently in early negative reviews, with many players voicing their struggles with the restriction. The Elden Ring subreddit humorously reflects this demand, with numerous posts seeking a third player resembling "a threesome sub."

In conversation with IGN, Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki acknowledged the oversight: "We kind of overlooked and neglected the duos aspect," while confirming the team is evaluating post-launch support options. Given the overwhelming player demand, implementing a duos mode seems increasingly likely.
