The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Includes That Iconic Line Flub From the Original Game

by Emery May 14,2025

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered brings a fresh take on Bethesda's classic with updated visuals, enhanced gameplay mechanics, and more. Yet, the team at Virtuos made sure to retain one of the original game's most beloved quirks: the iconic voice line from Master Speechcraft trainer Tandilwe.

Veteran fans of The Elder Scrolls series will instantly recognize Tandilwe, the High Elf found in the Temple of the One in the Imperial City. When Oblivion first launched for PC and Xbox 360 nearly two decades ago, Tandilwe's voice lines became infamous. One particular line, featuring actress Linda Kenyon seemingly flubbing her dialogue, has become a cherished part of gaming lore.

As players ventured into the revitalized world of Cyrodiil with the remaster's launch, many were eager to see how much of the original remained. While the environments, character models, and items have been significantly enhanced, fans were thrilled to discover that the game's charming imperfections, such as Tandilwe’s hilarious blooper, have been preserved. The line remains just as it was almost 20 years ago, complete with its original lack of subtitles.

In a 2019 interview with YouTube channel Jake 'The Voice' Parr, Linda Kenyon addressed the infamous blooper, humorously stating, "It wasn't my fault!"

As thousands dive into The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, debates continue about whether this Bethesda re-release leans more towards a remake or a remaster. Yet, many players appreciate the decision to keep the game's original jank intact. Bethesda and Virtuos were committed to maintaining these quirks, a choice that has resonated well with both new and returning players.
