New Evidence of Rumored Elder Scrolls 4 Remake Surfaces

Oblivion Remake Hints Emerge: Unreal Engine 5 and a Potential 2025 Reveal

A developer's LinkedIn profile fuels speculation about an Oblivion remake built using Unreal Engine 5. The anticipation is high among fans, with many hoping for an official announcement during a potential Xbox Developer Direct in 2025, although this event remains unconfirmed. Further fueling excitement is the widespread desire for a new Elder Scrolls VI trailer within the same year.

Rumors surrounding an Oblivion remake have circulated for years, with a 2023 prediction suggesting a 2024 or 2025 launch. In late December 2024, Xbox insider Jez Corden predicted a January 2025 reveal during an Xbox Developer Direct. Given previous Developer Directs in January 2023 and 2024, this possibility remains strong. The latest evidence significantly strengthens these ongoing rumors.

A Technical Art Director at Virtuos, the studio reportedly developing the remake, boasts on their LinkedIn profile about working on an "unannounced Unreal Engine 5 remake for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S." While the game isn't explicitly named, many believe it to be Oblivion, particularly given the Unreal Engine 5 specification—suggesting a full remake rather than a remaster. Separately, plans for a Fallout 3 remaster surfaced in late 2023, though its current status remains unclear.

Oblivion Remake Rumors Gain Momentum

Released in 2006, Oblivion, the sequel to 2002's Morrowind, received widespread acclaim for its expansive world, visuals, and soundtrack. Since 2012, the dedicated Skyblivion modding community has been recreating Oblivion within Skyrim's engine. A recent video update hints at a potential 2025 release for this ambitious project.

The Elder Scrolls franchise's future remains somewhat shrouded in mystery. The only trailer for Elder Scrolls VI debuted in 2018. Bethesda Game Studios has indicated it will be their next major project following Starfield, with director Todd Howard suggesting a release timeframe of "15 to 17 years after Skyrim." While a firm release date remains elusive, fans are hopeful for a new trailer before the close of 2025.
