FCC Filing Hints at Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Upgrade

by Brooklyn Apr 24,2025

With just hours to go before the eagerly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, fans are buzzing with excitement and speculation about what Nintendo has in store for its next console. A recent Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filing has added fuel to the fire, hinting at what could be part of the Switch 2 controller lineup.

On March 31, an FCC filing under the product code "BEE-008" surfaced, as noted on Famiboards and reported by Nintendo-focused sites like GoNintendo. This filing appears to be for a new game controller, with some enthusiasts theorizing that it could be the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller. It's important to note that this is purely speculation at this point, as Nintendo has not yet confirmed any details about a Switch 2 Pro Controller. However, certain features listed, such as Bluetooth and NFC capabilities, suggest that this might indeed be a Pro Controller.

One particularly noteworthy aspect of the filing is the potential inclusion of a headphone jack. Unlike the original Switch Pro Controller, which lacked this feature, the inclusion of a headphone jack would align the Switch 2 Pro Controller with modern competitors like the DualSense and Xbox Series controllers. If true, this would represent a significant quality-of-life improvement for gamers.

While past FCC filings have sometimes given us early glimpses into Nintendo's plans, we must remember that without official confirmation, these remain in the realm of speculation. We may have to wait until tomorrow's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct to get the full picture.

The Switch 2 Direct is scheduled to air tomorrow at 6am PT / 9am ET on Nintendo's channels, promising a "closer look" at the Switch 2 following its initial reveal earlier this year. With an hour-long presentation, fans can expect detailed information and possibly a release date. Additionally, Nintendo has planned two Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2 sessions featuring hands-on gameplay on April 3 and April 4, starting at 7am PT each day.
