In NieR: Automata, some upgrade materials are notoriously harder to come by than others. While many can be obtained by defeating enemies, certain materials, like Filler Metal, only appear as random drops in the game's overworld. The randomness of these drops adds an element of chance to your farming efforts.

If you're eager to get your hands on Filler Metal early in the game, you'll need to explore the overworld, but be ready for a lengthy journey. Later in the game, you have the option to buy Filler Metal, albeit at a high cost, which can be a more straightforward approach if you have the funds.

Where To Find Filler Metal In NieR: Automata

Filler Metal is a rare drop found in the Factory's depths. The exact location changes each time you visit, making Filler Metal one of the least likely items to spawn compared to others. Once you've progressed in the main story and unlocked the Factory: Hanger access point, you can fast travel to it. This serves as an excellent starting point for your search, as it places you deep within the factory.

Keep in mind that you may need to unlock the Factory: Hanger access point again depending on your progress in the story.

Although movement speed enhancements can ease the process, farming Filler Metal remains unpredictable. Your best strategy is to thoroughly explore the factory, collecting all naturally spawned items you encounter. However, purchasing Filler Metal is the most reliable way to acquire it in large quantities.

Where To Buy Filler Metal In NieR: Automata

The only vendor selling Filler Metal is the Shopkeeper Machine at the Amusement Park, but this option becomes available only after you've achieved one of the final endings, requiring you to complete all three playthroughs of the game. Once you've finished the game, you can revisit the Shopkeeper using Chapter Select to access its updated inventory, where Filler Metal is available for 11,250 G each.

Despite the high price, buying Filler Metal is a more dependable method than repeatedly exploring the Factory, especially since the Pod upgrades requiring this material are crucial for tackling the game's higher-level enemies.
