New First-Party PlayStation Game Will Reportedly Be Inspired by Smash Bros

A PlayStation studio, recently formed from former Bungie employees, is developing a MOBA codenamed "Gummy Bears." This project, initially conceived at Bungie, has reportedly undergone a significant shift in development.
Initially reported in August 2023, Gummy Bears was described as a MOBA under development at Bungie. Following Bungie's 2024 layoffs and subsequent integration of employees into Sony Interactive Entertainment, a new PlayStation studio, comprised of approximately 40 former Bungie developers, assumed responsibility for the game's development.
The game's unique feature is its departure from traditional health bars. Instead, Gummy Bears utilizes a percentage-based damage system, reminiscent of the Super Smash Bros. franchise. High enough damage percentages result in characters being knocked off the map.
Gummy Bears will feature standard MOBA character classes (Attack, Defense, Support) and multiple game modes. Its visual style is described as cozy, vibrant, and "lo-fi," a deliberate departure from Bungie's previous work, aiming to attract a younger audience.
The game has been in development since at least 2022, initially at Bungie and now at the newly established PlayStation studio in Los Angeles. While a release date remains unconfirmed, the game is expected to be several years from launch.
