Formovie Episode One Hardware Review: Projection Heaven?
Here at Droid Gamers, we're no strangers to a wide array of tech gadgets, but receiving a projector was a fresh surprise. The Formovie Episode One, designed to stream mobile games on a larger screen, caught our attention as a promising piece of technology to explore.
The Episode One is marketed as a budget-friendly option, and it certainly lives up to that promise while offering more. Despite a few drawbacks, it's an impressive entry-level choice. Out of the box, you receive the projector, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and a manual. While it might not have the solid heft of pricier models, its weight of just three pounds makes it impressively portable—perfect for taking on the go.
For those concerned about connectivity, the Episode One comes equipped with one USB-A port, one HDMI port, and a single audio jack. While this setup may seem limited, it's quite sufficient for the average user, especially considering the cost.
Performance-wise, the Episode One delivers well for its price point. With 150 ISO lumens, it's not the brightest or most powerful laser-based projector on the market. Our testing revealed that it struggled under direct sunlight, but excelled in darker environments, as expected. Every film, TV show, and streamed game we tested displayed clearly, although the best image quality was achieved when the projector was positioned at least 10 feet away from the screen.
The audio quality from the built-in speaker is functional, yet somewhat tinny. For an enhanced experience, pairing the Episode One with an external speaker is highly recommended.
The user interface is where the Episode One truly shines among its budget competitors. It's user-friendly and straightforward, making it easier to navigate than some of the more complex and expensive projectors we've encountered.
In conclusion, the Formovie Episode One is an excellent starting point for anyone dipping their toes into the world of projectors. It may not excel in any one area, but it's a reliable all-rounder that will meet the needs of most casual users effectively.
*If you decide to purchase an Episode One projector, you'll receive a $15/€15 Netflix gift card as well. This offer is valid until May 27th. Click here to check it out.*
