Game Informer Revived: Neill Blomkamp's Studio Acquires, Entire Team Returns
Exciting news for gaming enthusiasts: Game Informer is back in action, a little over six months after GameStop closed it down in August 2024. The entire team is making a triumphant return, thanks to Gunzilla Games, who have secured the rights to this beloved gaming publication. In a heartfelt 'Letter From the Editor,' Game Informer's Editor-In-Chief, Matt Miller, shared the thrilling details of this revival.
Gunzilla Games, known for their free-to-play extraction battle royale game, Off the Grid, currently in Early Access, and their innovative blockchain ecosystem, GunZ, have big plans for Game Informer. Not only are they bringing back the editorial team, but they're also expanding into production and beyond. Adding to the excitement, the team is led by Neill Blomkamp, the renowned director of District 9 and Chappie, serving as Gunzilla's chief creative officer and co-founder.
Game Informer is back! The entire team is returning and we can't wait to reconnect. Come join us to celebrate the best in games, the people who make games, and the people who play games from around the world.

Miller emphasized that Gunzilla Games is committed to keeping Game Informer an independent editorial outlet. The new owners believe strongly in maintaining an editorial group that makes 100% of the decisions on coverage, free from any external influence. This commitment to editorial independence is a cornerstone of Game Informer's revival.
Now operating under the new entity, Game Informer Inc., the publication has seamlessly resumed its over 30-year legacy. To ensure no break in coverage, the team has prepared "dozens" of new reviews for games released during their hiatus, alongside their eagerly anticipated Best of 2024 awards.
Fans of the print magazine can also rejoice, as it will return at a later date, promising to be "bigger and better than it was before." In the coming weeks, Game Informer will introduce membership and subscription benefits, expand their video, streaming, and feature coverage, and seek to broaden the range of experts and partnerships to enrich their content.
Interested readers can create a new Game Informer account to stay updated and enjoy early benefits, including access to the Game Informer Magazine Archive, an exclusive weekly newsletter, Dark Mode, and Early-Bird Founder Access. This revival is a testament to the enduring passion for gaming journalism and the community that supports it.
