For newcomers, Uma Musume Pretty Derby is part of a larger multimedia franchise encompassing anime, manga, and more. Its popularity stems largely from the success of the anime series.

Originally released in Japan and Asia in February 2021 for Android and iOS, the game features horse girls—racehorses reincarnated as girls in an alternate universe—competing in the "Twinkle Series," a national sports entertainment spectacle, while striving for idol stardom.
