GTA 6 Delay to May 2026 Sparks Internet Outcry for Screenshots
It was perhaps inevitable: Rockstar has delayed GTA 6 to May 2026. The announcement came through a straightforward statement that lacked details on launch platforms or a new trailer. Not even a single screenshot accompanied the news, leaving fans with nothing new to see.
Rockstar's history of game delays is well-known among its fanbase, so the delay of GTA 6 might not come as a complete shock. Yet, the reaction from fans has been a mix of disappointment, relief, and the realization that the internet is set for another year of rampant speculation about the game.
The GTA 6 subreddit, a hub for wild conspiracy theories about the game, its trailers, and release dates, has seen an explosion of activity following the news.
“Ffs, Fuck Rockstar, at least give us screenshots,” MyNameIsToFuOG commented, echoing the general disappointment that Rockstar didn't soften the blow of the delay with any new visuals.
“At least give us a screenshot, this is ridiculous even for R*,” added Abvk0. “1.5 years of silence just to drop a delay news without even showing us bread crumbs of the game?”
“At least we have a date now, I don't mind a delay if it means the game is gonna be good,” said the more philosophical bl00nded.
“It’s Rockstar bro. What did you expect? Also, I really doubt it will release on May 26, they will delay it more,” said a somewhat concerned Puzzleheaded-Hunt731.
There is also speculation that Rockstar may release GTA 6 on PC simultaneously with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, now that the game has been delayed to 2026. “I hope that means that a PC version is also coming in 2026 and not 2027,” said Kiwibom.
“2026 console release, late 2027 PC release, 2028 new-gen console release,” predicted Velkoadmiral.
IGN’s own commenters had plenty to say about the GTA 6 delay, with user BSideleau criticizing the current console generation:
“Surprising no one. It will be a final game of this tepid generation. What a let down. I have never felt more grifted than by Microsoft and Sony this generation. Both consoles are more 0.5 updates from the previous generation than true next gen consoles, yet they expected us to pay MORE for them. Quit letting them get away with it. Demand better.”
There's also much discussion about the potential price of GTA 6. With both Nintendo and Microsoft setting some of their games at $80, fans are preparing for an $80 GTA 6. Some even speculate it could go as high as $100, especially if the new GTA Online is included.
In its statement, Rockstar mentioned, “we look forward to sharing more information with you soon.” This has led fans to hope that Trailer 2 might not be far off.
GTA 6 is not just anticipated to be the biggest entertainment launch of all time; fans expect it to be one of the greatest games ever made. Under such immense pressure, the developers at Rockstar and parent company Take-Two are likely to ensure the game launches at the highest possible quality level. With this in mind, the delay feels like it was always on the cards.
