GTA 6 PC Release Delayed: Official Hint
While Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) has not yet been officially announced for PC, recent comments from Take-Two Interactive's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, suggest that a PC release could be on the horizon. Dive into the latest developments and what the future might hold for GTA 6 across various platforms.
GTA 6 on PC: Unconfirmed but Teased
During an interview with IGN on February 10, 2025, Strauss Zelnick hinted at the possibility of GTA 6 eventually making its way to PC. He noted that while their upcoming game, Civilization 7, will launch simultaneously on both console and PC, Rockstar Games typically adopts a staggered release strategy. He pointed out, "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms."
This approach was evident with GTA 5, which debuted on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and finally on PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 was released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, with the PC version following in November 2019. Although no official confirmation has been made regarding GTA 6's PC release, Zelnick's comments imply a strong interest in eventually bringing the game to the platform. Fans were hopeful for a simultaneous PC launch, but it seems the traditional staggered approach might continue.
Take-Two's Confidence in GTA 6's Multiplatform Success
Zelnick also emphasized the growing significance of PC as a gaming platform, noting that PC versions can account for up to 40% of a game's total sales. He remarked, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue."
Despite reports of declining console sales for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Zelnick expressed confidence in GTA 6's ability to drive sales across all platforms. He believes that major titles like GTA 6 can boost console sales, stating, "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles."
He further elaborated, "And I think that will happen this year. I don't think tariffs are going to be our friend, but I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar 25 because of the release schedule, not just coming from us, but coming from others. So I'm not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC."
GTA 6 is slated for a Fall 2025 release, though a specific date remains unannounced. Stay updated on all the latest news and developments by visiting our Grand Theft Auto 6 page.
More Take-Two and Rockstar Games on Switch 2?
During the Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick also discussed the potential for their games to be released on the upcoming Switch 2 console. He highlighted their long-standing relationship with Nintendo and their willingness to support the platform when it aligns with their release strategy.
Zelnick noted a shift in Nintendo's audience, saying, "the Switch device can support any audience." With Civilization 7 already announced for the Switch, he added, "As you may have noted, Civilization 7 is now on Switch. So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch." This suggests that fans might see more of Take-Two and Rockstar's titles on the Switch 2 in the future.
