We Got a GTA 6 Delay Before GTA 6

Rockstar Games has officially announced the release date for GTA 6, but fans will have to wait a bit longer as the game has been delayed until 2026. Dive into the details of this decision and its impact on other game launches.

GTA 6 Release Date Announced

Coming on May 26, 2026

Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) stands as one of the most eagerly awaited titles in gaming history. Since the release of its first trailer, fans have been on the edge of their seats awaiting further news. After years of anticipation, Rockstar Games finally broke the silence with an official release date, albeit not the one fans had hoped for.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) dated May 2, Rockstar Games confirmed that GTA 6 will launch on May 26, 2026. This announcement came as a surprise, especially following Take-Two Interactive's Q3 2025 earnings call where they expressed confidence in a Fall 2025 release.

Rockstar Games issued an apology for the delay, expressing gratitude for the patience of their fans as they work to complete the game. They emphasized, "We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve." Further details are expected to be shared soon.

Take-Two Interactive Fully Supports Rockstar Games’ Decision

Take-Two Interactive has expressed full support for the additional time Rockstar Games is taking to develop GTA 6. In a statement released on their website on May 2, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick commented on the shift in GTA 6’s launch date.

He stated, "We support fully Rockstar Games taking additional time to realize their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI, which promises to be a groundbreaking, blockbuster entertainment experience that exceeds audience expectations."

This adjustment aligns with Take-Two's earlier comments about the potential for their titles to launch close to one another. Just last week, Gearbox Entertainment announced that Borderlands 4 would launch two weeks earlier than initially planned. While many speculated that this move was influenced by GTA 6’s release window, Gearbox has denied any such connection. Both games fall under the Take-Two Interactive umbrella.

Despite these shifts in release schedules, Take-Two remains committed to delivering excellence. They stated, "As we continue to release our phenomenal pipeline, we expect to deliver a multi-year period of growth in our business and enhanced value for our shareholders."

Devolver Digital Remains Adamant in Releasing a Game Same Day with GTA 6

The delay of GTA 6 has prompted an interesting response from Devolver Digital, the publisher behind Cult of the Lamb. Rather than moving away from GTA 6’s launch date, Devolver Digital has decided to release one of their games on the same day, May 26. They announced this bold move on X on May 2, stating, "You can’t escape us."

Back in March, Devolver Digital had already declared their intention to launch a game simultaneously with GTA 6. While they have yet to reveal which game will go head-to-head with GTA 6, they have a roster of potential candidates including sequels to Cult of the Lamb, Enter the Gungeon, Hotline Miami, or even a new IP.

In contrast, other developers and publishers are reportedly planning to avoid GTA 6’s release window. According to The Game Business Show in March, several anonymous game executives indicated their readiness to delay their games to steer clear of GTA 6’s launch.

Despite the delay, excitement for GTA 6 remains high among fans eager to explore the next chapter in Rockstar Games’ iconic open-world action-adventure series. Grand Theft Auto VI is now scheduled for release on May 26, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Stay tuned for more updates by checking out our related articles below!
