Rey Dau is your first encounter with a dragon monster in Monster Hunter Wilds. This beast wields the lightning element, rendering it immune to lightning-based attacks. However, it's vulnerable to other elements, particularly water and ice. Aim for its head, which has a 4-star weakness, or its wings, which have a 3-star weakness, for maximum impact.

Avoid targeting its torso, as it's heavily armored. If hitting the head proves challenging, focus on the tail instead. The legs are also not ideal targets due to their strong protection. For status ailments, you can use everything except Stun and Paralysis, as these won't affect a lightning-element dragon.

Use a Flash Pod

A key strategy to swiftly defeat Rey Dau is deploying a Flash Pod. This tool temporarily stuns the monster, providing a window to land critical hits. When Rey Dau unleashes its lightning attack, aim for its horn, which will glow bright red in Focus Mode, to deal significant damage.

Wear Element-Resistant Gear

Surviving Rey Dau's onslaught can be tough. Equip gear like the Hope Armor set, which offers the Divine Blessing skill to reduce damage and provides resistance to Lightning and Fire. Additionally, consuming a meal that boosts your elemental resistance can be beneficial. If dodging is a challenge, stay close to Rey Dau's legs, as the monster primarily attacks in front and behind, leaving you safer near its limbs.

Pay Attention to the Environment

Rey Dau's mobility adds another layer of complexity to the fight. In the open plains, utilize Vine Traps on the lone tree to momentarily stun the dragon. Be cautious when it returns to its nest, as it follows up with a dangerous lightning attack that can easily stun you. Patience is key here to avoid a fatal shock.

Capturing Rey Dau offers an alternative to defeating it, yielding valuable rewards. To capture this dragon, weaken it until it's near death, indicated by a skull icon near its icon on the mini-map. Use a Pitfall Trap, as Shock Traps won't work on a lightning dragon. Follow up quickly with a Tranquilizer to prevent escape, as you only have a brief window to act.
