Should You Hand Over the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?
In *Avowed*, one of the earliest pivotal choices you'll face is whether to give Sargamis the Splinter of Eothas. This decision can lead to three distinct outcomes: a bad ending, a worse ending, and one that's actually quite favorable. This guide delves into what happens if you decide to give Sargamis Eothas' Splinter.
What Happens If You Don’t Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?

When you converse with Sargamis, it's clear that withholding the Splinter will lead to a dire outcome. True to his word, if you outright refuse to give him the Splinter, Sargamis will engage you in combat. In *Avowed*, he's treated as an optional boss, complete with a significant health bar and a challenging fight early in the game.
Sargamis calls upon two spirit creatures to assist him, though they primarily target Kai and leave you alone. He uses swift thrusting attacks with his sword, allowing him to close distances quickly. However, he's susceptible to being frozen, so equipping ice spells can help manage the fight by slowing him down.
Defeating Sargamis rewards you with the Last Light of Day mace, a unique weapon that restores three percent of your health upon defeating an enemy and adds a 10 percent bonus to fire damage on your attacks.
What Happens If You Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?

After agreeing to hand over the Splinter, you have three potential paths. You can change your mind, prompting Sargamis to attack you. Alternatively, you can persuade him to enter the statue himself, which results in his death and you obtaining the Last Light of Day. The third option involves offering yourself to the statue, which splits into two further choices.
If you stand in the circle as instructed and wait for Sargamis to activate the machine, you'll die but earn the "Get In The Statue, Envoy" achievement. Reloading *Avowed* will bring you back to the moment before you entered the circle. If you decide to leave the circle when Sargamis tells you to stand still, he'll become enraged and attack you.
How To Finish Dawntreader Without Killing Sargamis in Avowed

The optimal way to handle the Splinter of Eothas scenario is to convince Sargamis that his plan is doomed to fail, which requires some additional effort. You'll need an Intellect stat of 4 or higher to access these dialogue options. If you need to adjust your stats, refer to our *Avowed* respec guide.
Place the Splinter in the statue before speaking with Sargamis, activate the machine, and then talk to him after it fails. Persuade him that his plan won't succeed, and he'll abandon it. The Court Augur and Arcane Scholar backgrounds are key to starting this path, though other backgrounds might offer similar choices. Guide Sargamis to understand that Eothas is gone, but avoid the intellect option about live soul transfer.
After Sargamis leaves, you can choose whether to let the voice use the statue or destroy it yourself. Then, locate Sargamis in his quarters and speak with him to complete this segment of the Dawntreader quest, earning more experience than if you had fought him or given him the Splinter.
This covers the decision of whether to give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in *Avowed*. If you're new to Obsidian's latest RPG, check out our *Avowed* beginner's guide for useful tips.
