Hi-Fi Rush Saved!? Tango Gameworks Purchased Just Before Closure
Krafton Acquires Tango Gameworks, Saving Hi-Fi Rush
Following Microsoft's announcement of Tango Gameworks' closure, Krafton Inc., the publisher behind PUBG, has acquired the studio and its acclaimed rhythm game, Hi-Fi Rush. This unexpected acquisition has breathed new life into the popular title and its development team.
Future of Hi-Fi Rush and Tango Gameworks
Krafton's acquisition secures the rights to Hi-Fi Rush, ensuring its continued development. The publisher stated its commitment to working with Xbox and ZeniMax for a smooth transition, allowing Tango Gameworks to continue developing the Hi-Fi Rush IP and explore new projects. Krafton emphasized its intention to support the team's innovative spirit and deliver exciting experiences for fans. Importantly, existing titles like The Evil Within, The Evil Within 2, and Ghostwire: Tokyo will remain unaffected by this acquisition and will continue to be available on their respective platforms.
Microsoft's statement confirmed their collaboration with Krafton to facilitate Tango Gameworks' continued game development.
The acquisition marks Krafton's first significant investment in the Japanese video game market and a strategic expansion of its global presence. Tango Gameworks, founded by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, was previously slated for closure as part of Microsoft's restructuring efforts, despite the critical and commercial success of Hi-Fi Rush.
The developers of Hi-Fi Rush, even after layoffs, demonstrated their dedication by collaborating with Limited Run Games on a physical edition and releasing a final patch for the game.
Hi-Fi Rush 2: Still Unconfirmed
While speculation abounds regarding a potential Hi-Fi Rush sequel, Krafton has yet to officially announce any plans for a follow-up. The previous proposal for a sequel was reportedly rejected by Xbox before the acquisition. However, the future remains bright for Tango Gameworks under Krafton's ownership, promising continued innovation and exciting new projects.
The acquisition underscores Krafton's commitment to expanding its portfolio with high-quality content and pushing the boundaries of interactive entertainment. The future of Tango Gameworks and the Hi-Fi Rush franchise is now firmly in the hands of a new, ambitious owner.
