"Hollow Knight: Silksong Fans Hopeful for Nintendo Direct Reveal"

by Owen May 14,2025

While some communities, such as the enthusiastic fans of Tomodachi Life, are reveling in the excitement from today's Nintendo Direct, others are facing disappointment once again. Specifically, the Hollow Knight: Silksong community is dusting off their clown makeup after the long-awaited sequel failed to make an appearance at the showcase.

Fortunately, another Nintendo Direct is scheduled for next week on April 2nd.

Of course, now we wait for April 2nd

The Silksong community has been on a rollercoaster of anticipation and disappointment for quite some time. A quick visit to their subreddit or Discord server will immerse you in a sea of memes and "silkposts" that fantasize, predict, and humorously cope with the seemingly endless wait for the game. We've previously covered their reactions to back-to-back Nintendo Directs last year and the frenzy caused by a chocolate cake photo in January, which sparked a wild search for an ARG that turned out to be a false alarm. It's challenging to gauge from an outsider's perspective whether the community's reactions stem more from genuine disappointment or a shared sense of humor among fans every time a new showcase is announced.

Nintendo Direct? That’s not until April 2nd

However, the upcoming showcase carries a bit more weight for the Silksong community. Hollow Knight initially launched on PC, but its popularity surged with its release on the Nintendo Switch the following year, leading many to closely associate the game with Nintendo's console. The anticipation for the next showcase is heightened as it's rumored to focus on the Nintendo Switch 2, showcasing both the hardware and potential launch titles. This event presents a prime opportunity for Silksong to make a grand reappearance. While the showcase will likely feature numerous first-party titles, Hollow Knight fans are clinging to the hope that Silksong's popularity and anticipation will secure its spot in such a significant event, signaling that the game is finally ready for release.

Is the Silksong community poised for yet another letdown, perhaps the 50th time since the game was announced? It's quite possible! However, there are a few signs that a release date announcement might be on the horizon. An Xbox Wire post on indies recently mentioned Silksong, albeit potentially in jest. More intriguingly, recent backend changes to the game's Steam listing, including an updated copyright year, have been noted. Yet, the community has experienced numerous false starts from Silksong's listings and delistings on various console storefronts over the years. So, the outcome remains uncertain.

The only concrete information we have comes from Team Cherry's marketing and publishing chief, Matthew 'Leth' Griffin, who stated in January after the cake incident, "Yes the game is real, progressing, and will release." All we can do now is wait and dream of the day we finally experience a post-Silksong world.

So, get your clown makeup ready for next week, folks!
