Silksong Players Puzzle Over Hornet's Cloak Mystery

by Connor Sep 30,2025

Yesterday, IGN announced that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be playable at an Australian museum in September 2025, while showcasing a sprite sheet from the eagerly awaited title. Naturally, the internet had some thoughts.

"In what situation would creating a sprite of uncloaked Hornet be necessary?" questioned one Reddit user in a thread analyzing the exclusive assets.

Among dozens of sprites featuring Silksong's protagonist Hornet—mostly depicting battle stances and idle animations—one particular frame shows her casually carrying her cloak underarm. (We've included a detailed crop below, visible in the original sheet's top-right section beneath the circular interface element):

"What in-game scenario would require her to remove her cloak like some exhausted parent coming home? This feels cursed," remarked one commenter.

"Is this actually happening? No way this is a legitimate game asset. Is that seriously her character model?" wondered another user, while others exclaimed: "WHY WOULD THEY EVER NEED THIS SPRITE?"

The discussion quickly took an... enthusiastic turn.

"Guess we won't need mods anymore," declared one respondent, while another joked: "Straight to Adults Only rating with this content."

"HORNET PLEASE WEAR YOUR CLOAK THIS IS INAPPROPRIATE," protested a thread starter, prompting others to agree: "This looks so off," and "completely uncalled for."

"I'm not a fan of this," stated another participant.

The most reasonable explanation might involve cloak upgrades or customization... but until confirmed, Hornet enthusiasts can let their theories run wild.

Team Cherry's sequel remains one of gaming's most anticipated releases, dominating Steam wishlists for years. The game appeared briefly during Nintendo's Switch 2 presentation last month, before developers confirmed its 2025 launch window—much to fans' relief. With confirmation of public demos at Melbourne's ACMI museum starting September 18, speculation suggests a potential August release, though nothing is officially confirmed.

Silksong will feature in ACMI's Game Worlds exhibition, including displays exploring the title's design philosophy and artistic vision alongside playable demos.
