Hyper Light Breaker: How to Get New Weapons
Hyper Light Breaker boasts a diverse arsenal, and a solid weapon is crucial for any successful build. While you begin with basic equipment, the game allows you to discover weapons better suited to your preferred playstyle. Blending roguelike and extraction game elements, Hyper Light Breaker offers a unique approach to weapon acquisition. Here's how to expand your arsenal:
Acquiring New Weapons in Hyper Light Breaker
Exploring Overgrowths is the primary method for finding new gear. While exploring, you'll naturally uncover new items, but for focused weapon hunting, look for sword or pistol icons on the map. These represent Blades (melee) and Rails (ranged) respectively.
Blades offer diverse movesets and special abilities, while Rails provide varied ranged functionalities. Both weapon types come in different rarities, with gold being the most powerful. As expected in loot-driven games, rarity correlates directly with improved stats.
To store weapons found in Overgrowths for later use, select the Cache option instead of Equip. You can then equip these weapons before starting your next run by adjusting your loadout.
Obtaining New Starting Weapons
Beyond discovering weapons during runs, you can purchase new starting equipment from merchants at the Cursed Outpost. Initially, only the Blades merchant is accessible. To unlock the Rails merchant, you must gather sufficient materials to repair their shop.
Merchants have limited stock, but their inventories refresh periodically. If you don't find what you're looking for immediately, check back later.
Weapon Upgrades
Upgrade your weapons at the Outpost merchants, but first, you must unlock the upgrade function by increasing your affinity with the merchants. This requires Golden Rations, a rare resource obtained through exploration or cycle resets. Use Golden Rations judiciously, as they are hard to obtain.
Death results in a loss of one durability pip from equipped weapons (indicated by the bar under their icons). Repeated deaths will eventually break your weapons.
