Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment Revealed for Nintendo Switch 2

by Finn Apr 13,2025

It wouldn't be a Nintendo console without a Zelda, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is no exception, though it came in a form we weren't expecting. During today's Nintendo Direct, we learned that Koei Tecmo is making a new Hyrule Warriors game: a Tears of the Kingdom prequel called Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. And it's coming out this winter.

PlayHyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is another exciting entry in the Hyrule Warriors series, this time focusing on the characters from the ancient history sections of Tears of the Kingdom. Key figures include Zelda, Rauru, Sonia, and other Secret Stone holders. The game delves into Zelda's actions during the events of Tears of the Kingdom after she journeyed back in time. Here, she allies with the last of the Zonai, Rauru, his sister Mineru, and his wife Sonia, to battle Ganondorf and his forces.

The trailer showcased the unique abilities of these champions, including Mineru piloting a mech, Zelda's powerful magic, Rauru wielding a striking sword-spear, and a brief look at other Sacred Stone wielders.

This will be the third installment in the Hyrule Warriors series, following the original Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which served as a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Age of Calamity was particularly notable for its fresh take on the Breath of the Wild narrative, earning a 9/10 from us for being "a joy to play and discover" and "a blast from start to finish."
